I am fixated on familiar feelings and clever construction; I am chasing déjà vu, tactile memory, ubiquitous phenomena, pre-nostalgia - trying to grasp what is important, common and shared between people. I’m curious about what changes through the lens of experience and knowledge, how, or if, this is shared and passed down today. I am enamored with functional objects, especially those made/mended/hacked with necessity and care. My interest and material fluency reside in the domestic realm, marine activities, and survivalist notions. These scenarios, accompanying objects, and devices inspire me, as they are constructed for unique settings and uses, crafted and designed for a specific purpose. The spaces and material languages of the crafted home, the rigged floatable, and essentialist adventurer obtain objects that edge on the fantasy of their reality, a making something from nothing. These very basic situations are in constant flux with our material, working, food, and leisure cultures. I align with the human nature of autodidacticism - making things to be utilized, appreciated, and perfected - and that of adhocism, Turkish halletmek, and global object play.
